Coronado National Memorial was established as the Coronado International Monument in 1940 to commemorate the Coronado expedition through Mexico and Arizona. In 1952, the Monument was re-designated a National Monument, and today continues to provide visitors the opportunity to reflect on the impacts of the 1540-1542 expedition on the shaping of the Southwest. Additional information about Coronado National Memorial is available at the official National Park Service website for Coronado and at the Learning Center of the American Southwest Coronado National Memorial page.
