Description: Partial wooden pack saddle with metal reinforcements and leather straps. Found on the Boucher (Hermit) Trail in 1948 by Merrill Clubb, who noted: "This must undoubtedly be L[oius] B[oucher]'s very own pack saddle. It was about half way between the bottom of the Redwall and his cabin -- right by his trail. This should be the Kaabab (sic) of all trail men. B's trail is almost incredible as the work of one man." Description: Galloway-style Cataract boat used on the Stone expedition. Built of white oak and Michigan pine, with two compartments each in the fore and aft. Bottom covered in with a thin iron sheet. Dimensions: 16.5' L, 4' W at the gunwales, 18" deep, with a 10" rake fore and aft from the center. Dry, the boat weighed 243 lbs. This is an ulnar carpal from a medium to large mammal, one of the few identifiable bones found on the site. Like the other faunal remains recovered during excavation, this bone was burned. - Butchart's Boot

Excavations just outside the pit house produced a piece of fired clay with corn (maize) cob impressions. Just a fragment, this piece is thought to have been part of a clay stopper used to seal a jar in which corn was stored; it is likely it was unfired until the burning of the pit house. - Gear

This is a burned piece of animal bone found at the site. The size and condition of the bone suggests it came from a medium to large mammal that was consumed as food. Other bones were made into tools, including the awl found within the hearth.
