Description: Galloway-style Cataract boat used on the Stone expedition. Built of white oak and Michigan pine, with two compartments each in the fore and aft. Bottom covered in with a thin iron sheet. Dimensions: 16.5' L, 4' W at the gunwales, 18" deep, with a 10" rake fore and aft from the center. Dry, the boat weighed 243 lbs. Description: Colin Fletcher's backpack, possibly used during his 1963 hike through the Grand Canyon (if so, it has been re-covered). Personalized after-market additions to the pack include a denim pocket sewn to one of the shoulder straps, a dangling metal clip tied to the upper crossbar of the frame, and some foam padding taped to another crossbar on the frame. Dimensions: Size large. Pack Details: Trailwise external, aluminum frame nylon backpack. Forest green in color, with two tan nylon side pockets, black hip belt, and gray shoulder straps. The pack consists of one large central compartment, large front pocket, and four side pockets, all with zippers. There is another zipper pocket on the top lid, which is closed using white plastic buckles. The ventilation panel is made of gray mesh lashed to the frame with nylon cord. Description: Iris Brand cinnamon box, Bishop's peanut butter can, Hills Bros coffee tin, and Log Cabin syrup tin. All but the cinnamon box came from Bass Asbestos Mine. Dimensions: Peanut butter can contents: 1 lb 4 oz net weight; Coffee can contents: 2 1/2 lb net weight; Syrup can spout cap: 2.7 cm diameter. Description: Geologic pick, blasting cap tin, and oil lamp with reflector. The pick was collected at Bass Asbestos Mine. The blasting cap tin, also from Bass Asbestos Mine, has raised lettering "California Cap Co./San Fc'o" and iron cross with four x's, as well as a paper label reading "Made by California Cap Co." The lamp was found in Mauv Saddle Camp and consists of a glass base with brass ring, brass wick holder with hinged wick guard, prongs for the chimney, and a holder hanger of black metal. Subject: Louis Akins' "Evening-Grand Canyon of Arizona" painting. The painting shows a view of the Grand Canyon from the South Rim, with a portion of the Colorado River visible, and is thought to be his largest landscape.
