- Shaped Grooved Abrader
Cultural Period: Ancestral Puebloan, Atsinna Pueblo (A.D. 1275 – mid-1300s) Description: Shaped abrading stone with two working surfaces. One surface has a transverse groove with a rounded bottom and red pigment stains. The other surface has two v-shaped longitudinal grooves remaining, and broken on a third. A fourth thin and relatively shallow groove crosses the others perpendicularly. Dimensions: L 13.3, W 8.4, T 3.7 CM. Provenience: LA 99 (Atsinna Pueblo), RM 11, FILL. Both surfaces of the abrader were used, but the grooves are present only on one side. Dimensions: L 24.5, W 14.8, T 3.4 CM. Cultural Period: Ancestral Puebloan, Atsinna Pueblo (A.D. 1275 – mid-1300s) Description: Small grooved stone with rounded ends described in the artifact catalog as a possible weight or “ceremonial maul.” The groove follows a natural inconsistency in the rock. Cultural Period: Ancestral Puebloan, Atsinna Pueblo (A.D. 1275 – mid-1300s) Description: Large cylindrical artifact described in the artifact catalog as a “stone bar or bell” and a “digging tool/pestle?” with a ground, pecked surface and one flat side. The catalog indicated the material is gneiss, most likely from near Mt. Sedgwick to the north. Dimensions: L 48.9, W 8.9, T 5.6 CM. Provenience: LA 99 (Atsinna Pueblo), RM 1-S, E CACHE.
