Description: Stone anvil or smoother. The stone is deeply worn around the center for a handle or to facilitate holding. One end smoothed from use. Description: Game tallies? Kick ball? Sling stone? Club head? Or kiva "thunder" stone, rolled across the floor to imitate thunder? Stone balls had many uses. The ball on the left retains what may be hematite or ocher pigment and measures approximately 6.9 cm in width. The ball on the right measures approximately 4.8 cm wide, and was collected with a mortar, in which the ball fit. Cultural Period: Ancestral Puebloan, Atsinna Pueblo (A.D. 1275 – mid-1300s) Description: Small quartz handstone described as a “hammerstone” in the artifact catalog. The artifact bears smooth sides, is rectangular, and has some pecking in the center of two of the faces. Dimensions: L 7.7, W 4.7, T 3.7 CM. Provenience: LA 99 (Atsinna Pueblo), ROOM 16, FILL.
