Barbara Mills, Professor and Chair of Anthropology at the University of Arizona , identified this bowl as Puerco Black-on-white. White Mound Black-on-white dates substantially earlier than Puerco Black-on-white. Given that the bowl was found cached with other ceramics dating to the same period as Puerco Black-on-white, the second classification is likely the more accurate. White Mound Black-on-white is also quite rare in the El Morro region, and the banded motifs on this bowl are more consistent with Puerco Black-on-white.
