Drill Fashioned from a Point

NAVA_1177.jpg Expended DrillThumbnailsScraper

Cultural Period: Archaic/Ancestral Puebloan

Description: This drill was knapped into the end of a chert Elko Corner-notched/San Pedro projectile point.
This point style has a vast age range, but is typically considered Middle to Late Archaic. However, the drill could have been fashioned on an older point, so dating this particular artifact without contextual information, such as site location and stratigraphic positioning, would be very difficult, if not impossible.

Dimensions: 1 3/8 L x 13/16 W x 3/16 T (inches).

Collection: On display at Navajo National Monument (Catalog No. 35).
