NAVA_littlepot_03copy.jpg ThumbnailsRoom Interior, Keet Seel, 2006

Cultural Period: Ancestral Puebloan

Description: This little black-on-white pot was found in a California Goodwill store with a World War I-era newspaper article inside. Goodwill Industries manager Lance Aguiar identified the pot in the donations and immediately contacted Navajo National Monument.

In 2009, Goodwill returned the pot to Navajo National Monument, requesting in the accompanying letter knowledge of the outcome regarding the authenticity of the pot so that they could share in their local newspaper the story of the vessel.

Navajo National Monument thanked Lance Aguiar directly in their response letter, saying: "This is a great example of the public playing an important role in cultural resource preservation efforts... that protect our national heritage," and in a separate letter to Mr. Aguiar: "We sincerely thank you for your thoughtfulness and effort in returning the pot to its place of origin."

Dimensions: Unknown.
