Cultural Period: Ancestral Puebloan, Atsinna Pueblo (A.D. 1275 – mid-1300s)

Description: Triangular flaked stone artifact with a concave base made from a medium to fine-grained volcanic material. Although previously identified as a knife, Ashlee Bailey, Northern Arizona University graduate student in Anthropology, suggests this artifact is stylistically very similar to a Cortaro projectile point. If this is the case, it is likely that a resident of Atsinna collected the point from elsewhere, as Cortaro points date between 4300 BP and 2300 B.P., substantially earlier than the occupation of Atsinna Pueblo.
