Description: Game tallies? Kick ball? Sling stone? Club head? Or kiva "thunder" stone, rolled across the floor to imitate thunder? Stone balls had many uses. The ball on the left retains what may be hematite or ocher pigment and measures approximately 6.9 cm in width. The ball on the right measures approximately 4.8 cm wide, and was collected with a mortar, in which the ball fit. Cultural Period: Ancestral Puebloan (Wupatki Pueblo, A.D. 1130 – A.D. 1260) Description: Shell and turquoise necklace from Wupatki Pueblo, restrung on brown thread. The necklace includes 48 shell beads, including the Conus sp. pendant, and 15 turquoise beads. Dimensions: Approximately 15 cm long. Cultural Period: Ancestral Puebloan (Wupatki Pueblo, A.D. 1130 – A.D. 1260) Description: 34 disk-shaped beads, 1 rectangular bead, and 7 triangular beads, all Spondylus shell species, restrung with an Olivella shell bead; from Wupatki Pueblo. Cultural Period: Ancestral Puebloan Description: Stone palette shaped by chipping and grinding sandstone to form a rectangular shape in which three cupules are spaced equally. Each cupule still bears the remnants of minerals ground for paint pigment at Wupatki Pueblo. The yellow, orange, and brown pigments are derived from iron-rich minerals such as limonite, ochre, and perhaps hematite. Dimensions: 23.0L x 11.7W x 3.7T cm. Cultural Period: Ancestral Puebloan Description: Painted ceramic quadruped from a pottery vessel found in Wupatki Pueblo. Design is possibly Tularosa Black-on-white. Dimensions: 3.9 cm (H) x 2.1 cm (W) x 1.8 cm (T). Collection: On display at Wupatki National Monument. - Nose Plugs

Men wore these nose plugs through a pierced septum. Dimensions: (top) 3.7 cm (H) x 2.2 cm (W) x 1.7 cm (T); (bottom) 0.7 in. Cultural Period: Ancestral Puebloan and Hohokam Description: (left)weft wrap, open-weave cotton cloth recovered from the Wupatki Pueblo trash midden; (right) plain-weave cotton cloth dyed red. The North Country is too cold for cotton to grow, so the cloth, or the cotton from which it was woven, was likely traded to the Sinagua by their southern neighbors, the Hohokam. Dimensions: (left) 8 cm x 4.5 cm x 0.1 cm; (right) 14.0 cm x 12.5 cm. Collection: On display at Wupatki National Monument (catalog card 1, catalog card 2).
