Sifter Basket
Description: Fragment of a plaited basket (also known as a ring basket or a sifter) made from split yucca leaves. This basket has four plaits per inch in a 3/3/1 pattern plaited at a 75 degree angle. Dimensions: 29.5 x 27.5 cm, average width of the plaits is 0.66 cm. Collection: On display at the Tuzigoot National Monument Visitor Center (catalog card).
Twilled Weave with Remnants of Cordage
Description: Yucca matting made with a twilled weave with a piece of cordage attached to the matting. The cord is made of 2 z-spun yarns s-twisted together. At one end a very short length of another cord is attached with a square knot and the loose ends were then twisted back around the cord. Dimensions: 8 3/4 in by 7 in. Description: Yucca matting made with a twilled weave with a piece of cordage attached to the matting. The cord is made of 2 z-spun yarns s-twisted together. Description: Yavapai carrying basket with burden twined warps (0.3 cm diam, 9/2.5 cm, with 7-8 at edge) and wefts (10-12/2.5 cm). The rim selvage consists of warp elements bent over and sewn (6 stitches per 2.5 cm) as a bundle (0.8 cm diam) with a splint about the same size at the weft elements.
