Split-twig figurines were made between 2,000 and 4,000 years ago, during the Archaic period, and have been found in the Great Basin and on the Colorado Plateau. Usually recovered from remote cave locations, these often depict deer or bighorn sheep, and are also sometimes pierced with other sticks (spears or darts).
