This point was found across the wash from Wupatki Pueblo. Opaque point on the right: Side-notched chert projectile point manufactured in a Sinagua style. This point was found in the trash on the west side of Wupatki Pueblo. Dimensions: (black): 2.7L x 1.5W cm (1.06 x 0.59 in); (opaque): 1.3L x 0.6W cm (0.51 x 0.024 in). Cultural Period: Ancestral Puebloan/Kayenta Description: Pot sherds were often reworked into disks for stick-and-whorl spindles used to spin cotton thread. This one is a Black Mesa Black-on-white spindle whorl mounted on replica spindle made by Zorro Bradley c. 1956 for an exhibit. - Steatite Nose Plug
Cultural Period: Ancestral Puebloan (Wupatki Pueblo, A.D. 1130 – A.D. 1260) Description: Small nose plug carved from steatite. The plug came from the surface of Wupatki Pueblo, and it is speculated that it may have been a child's because of the small size. Dimensions: 1.9 (L) x 0.85 (W) cm ( 0.75 (L) x 0.33 (W) in). - Stone Balls
Description: Game tallies? Kick ball? Sling stone? Club head? Or kiva "thunder" stone, rolled across the floor to imitate thunder? Stone balls had many uses. The ball on the left retains what may be hematite or ocher pigment and measures approximately 6.9 cm in width. The ball on the right measures approximately 4.8 cm wide, and was collected with a mortar, in which the ball fit.
