The Kolb brothers were photographers and adventurists, as well as some of Grand Canyon's earliest permanent Euroamerican residents. The brothers made the first motion picture film of river-running in the Canyon, and showed their film daily in Kolb Studio on the South Rim.

Subject: Ellsworth Kolb holding an 8x10 camera while suspended by a rope in a narrow crevasse between two cliffs. His brother, Emery Kolb, is straddling the crevasse with a portion of an oak tree on which the rope is attached. This photo was used for promotional purposes and was on the cover of the photograph albums sold in the Kolb Studio shop.
