Cultural Period: Ancestral Puebloan (Wupatki Pueblo, A.D. 1130 – A.D. 1260) Description: This hearth board from Wupatki Pueblo would have served as the base of a fire making kit that using heat from friction (such as that created by a bow drill) to light tinder. Cultural Period: Ancestral Puebloan (Wupatki Pueblo, A.D. 1130 – A.D. 1260) Description: A fragment of a wooden fire drill found in the trash of Wupatki Pueblo. The stick would have been used in tandem with the hearth board in the next slide to create heat from friction that would in turn light tinder to start a fire.
