- Hudson's River Party, ca. 1949
Subject: Ed Hudson's river party leaving Lees Ferry in the Esmeralda II. Left to right on boat: Bestor Robinson, Ed Hudson Jr., Wilson Ayler, Ed Hudson Sr., and Otis Marston. The party reached Pearce Ferry at the head of Lake Mead on June 17, after successfully running all rapids in the Grand Canyon. Subject: The boat Glen running a rapid on the Colorado River. In 1921, this boat was used on the Green River for USGS surveying explorations. It was then used on the 1923 USGS expedition to survey the Grand Canyon for dam sites. The expedition was headed by Colonel Birdseye and Eugene Larue, and included geologist Raymond Moore and surveyors and boatmen Lewis Freeman, Leigh Lint, H.E. Blake, Emery Kolb, and Frank Dodge.
