Plants were an important resource for prehistoric people, but the artifacts made from perishable plant and other organic materials are rarely preserved in archaeological contexts. Fortunately, many of the National Parks in the Southwest protect prehistoric sites in which fragile and perishable materials were preserved in alcove and cliff settings.
